2010 Junior Golf at Copper Hill Golf Academy & Driving Range
Mission :
It is our hope at Copper Hill Golf Academy that juniors will have the opportunity to truly experience golf and all of its rewards and lessons. We want every junior to be able to compete and yet have fun at the same time. Therefore, at an early age, there are elements of 'competition' to our programs. We believe that juniors need to understand the highs, lows, joys, and pitfalls that come with participating in a sport, in hopes that they might recognize the similarities between their success in the game and in their own lives. Otherwise, the youth are not participating in sports; they are merely keeping themselves occupied. Placing kids in different ability groups and running a variety of skills challenges are great methods that allow kids to gain confidence from their personal success. Carefully monitored, these efforts in our programming yield positive results and communicate some great lessons.
Life is a series of wins and losses. We believe that there is true value in feeling the rush of a victory while excercising personal restraint, as well as the feeling of losing while excercising humility.
- Paul Banks

| Information - Frequently Asked Questions |
How
do I register? To register for our programs online, please click the "Register Online" link above, or you can request an enrollment form.
Enrollment forms are available in one of three ways : Does my child need equipment to participate? No, however it is helpful if we
know this before the program begins. For Future Pros, the equipment
is no charge. For all other programs, there is a rental fee. Where can I purchase junior golf equipment? You can purchase golf equipment
through Copper Hill Golf Acaedemy or Copper Hill Golf Club - in our opinion the time invested in choosing the
right golf clubs is easily as important as the time invested
in learning to play. What should my child bring with him/her to the program? We recommend a water bottle, a
hat, sunscreen, and a positive attitude. Lunch is included at Copper Hill Grill. Balls and tees for use on the golf course
are available for purchase at the Academy and at Copper Hill Golf Club. My child has significant experience playing golf. Is this program appropriate? We encourage players of all levels to join. You will notice that there is an overlap in the age requirement of the camps. If you have a nine or ten year old who is less experienced or may not be able to handle a full day, probably the tiger camps are a better fit. Can I request that my child plays with a certain group of friends? Generally this is not encouraged,
however if there is a transportation or medical issue which
may require this,we will make every effort to insure that the
players involved have tee times that are close to each other. Junior Golf Camp Refund Policy We reserve the right to cancel
any session within fifteen (15) days of the first day of that
session. In such an event, you will be provided the option of
rescheduling on a priority basis or receiving a full refund.
Partial refunds will be given according to the following schedule:
(I) more than thirty (30) days before the first day of the session,
one hundred (100%) of the fee; (II) between thirty (30) and
fifteen (15) days before the first day of the session, eighty-five
percent (85%) of the fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations
received within fourteen (14) days of the first day of the session.
Rescheduling (within a 12 month period) is permitted without
fee. Name changes are permitted at any time, without fee What is the maximum group size? Maximum group size in the junior golf camps is 8:1 instructor to student ratio How are the groups divided in terms of age and playing ability? Juniors are grouped in the instruction portion of the camp by age. Paul Banks, PGA Professional and owner of Copper Hill Golf Academy, and staff, will be in charge of the program. Players will be dropped off at the Copper Hill Golf Academy & Driving Range at 37 Griffin Road by 9:00 am, or earlier if they would like to warm up on the range. The children will be picked up at 12:30 at Copper Hill Golf Club. The camp will take place in rain, hot, cold, and wind, but will not take place if there is a threat of thunder or lightning in the area. We will always call if the camp is going to be cancelled. Fees are not refunded if the camp takes place and you decide not to attend. Can my child warm up / practice on the range before playing? All registered Junior Golf Camp participants may warm up on the range before playing beginning at 8:30 each morning. We have an automated ball machine, the cost of range balls is $4.00 for a small, $7.00 for a large, and $11.00 for a pro. |
2010 Tiger Golf Camps
are a shortened version of the full day for the younger set. Early in our development of junior golf camps we realized that some of the younger kids, while high in amibition, were lower on stamina. Hence, the Tiger Camps were born. Tiger Camps are simply shorter versions of our full day camp for Ages 7-10, and end after lunch (12:30) instead of 3:30. The format for the instruction is similar to the full day camps. Each morning part of the day is spent on full swing fundamentals and practice on the practice range, while the other part of the day is spent on various aspects of the short game (putting, chipping, pitching and bunker) with skill building games and fun contests included. The final day of the Tiger Camp is spent on the golf course; the kids are grouped in threesomes or foursomes and they have a scramble - playing as many holes as time will allow. Tiger Camps are for boys and girls ages 7-10.
Cost : $140 ($5 discount if paid in full by May 1, $10 discount if paid in full by April 1). The program cost includes lunch and greens fees each day.

Future Pros (ages 5-8)
is an introductory program designed to familiarize golf to kids with little or no golf experience. It is an ideal "first step" in fostering an interest in golf. We attempt to avoid technical instruction in this program, and instead try to capture the interest of the kids with various non-competitive games, drills, and fun learning exercises. They will finish this program with an understanding of the purpose of the game of golf, some rules and etiquette, and hopefully a desire to continue! The program is one hour (50 minutes) per week for six weeks. Clubs are not required. If your child brings his own clubs, we would like to emphasize the importance of clubs that fit - a factor that could make or break your child's interest in golf.

WHAT is SNAG?
SNAG falls somewhere
between miniature golf and regulation golf. Developed by former
PGA Tour players, SNAG contains all the basic elements of golf, but
in a modified form. SNAG adds fun to the learning and playing experience
by utilizing simplified rules and terminology. SNAG offers full shots,
chipping and putting. The SNAG ball has a limited distance with the
average player hitting it a maximum 50 yards. This is an absolute perfect
fit for the 5-8 age range and we have used this product for a number of years. It is used in approximately 25% of the training sessions, and the 5-8 year olds have responded well to it. . SNAG is the product used by The First Tee for many of it's
after-school or in-school programs.
HOW do you play?
SNAG utilizes 2 clubs: the Launcher, used to hit, pitch and chip the ball. And the Roller, used to roll the ball in the "short stuff". All shots other than putting are played off a small rubber mat called the Launch Pad. The SNAG ball is slightly smaller than a tennis ball and is covered with loop material. The target is called the Flagsticky, which is made of a hook material. Unlike golf where you finish out by putting the ball into a hole, in SNAG you SNAG out by sticking your ball to the Flagsticky. In addition to the SNAG basic equipment, there are training tools and targets that makes learning as much fun as playing. SNAG will be used for Junior lessons and clinics and is a great party idea. Call for details.
Spring / Summer / Fall Junior Golf Leagues
This unique league offers benefits for many different levels of players - juniors who have played on the course who would like to experience a more organized tournament format, tournament players who want to get some informal playing practice in a loose tournament environment. The goal is to provide a bridge for developing players between the process of learning golf and the process of playing golf. The league features different tournament experiences each week, ranging from Alternate Shot to Best Ball to Individual Events.
Each week PGA Professional Paul Banks or a Copper Hill Golf Academy staff member will conduct a 30-40 minute clinic before the round. The schedule for these clinics is listed next to the league date below.
The Spring Copper Hill Academy Junior Golf League will be held on Saturdays beginning at 1:30 PM. Individual players accumulate points each week, either as part of a winning team or as an individual winner. The individual player with the highest cumulative point total is the winner of the League. Trophies will be awarded for the top 5 finishers. Golf will be played at Copper Hill Golf Club in East Granby.
Copper Hill Golf Academy staff will set up the tournament including pre-round scorecards and post-round scoring.
$16 per week includes clinic, tournament administration, and greens fee, or $40 for all 4 weeks (Spring and Fall), $75 for all 6 weeks (Summer)

| Information - Frequently Asked Questions |
How
do I register? Click on the Tab above at the top of this page that says "Register Online", or you can request an enrollment form. Enrollment
forms are available in one of three ways : Do I need to sign up in advance? It is very helpful for us in planning if we know in advance if you will be playing. In order to guarantee a spot, we do need 48 hours notice. We will make pairings during the day on Tuesday. For Wednesday afternoon league dates, we will need confirmation either online or by phone at 653-7272 by 7:00 PM Monday night. Walk-on entries will be accepted on a space available basis Does my child need equipment to participate? Yes. If you do not currently have
equipment, we rent junior sets (all sizes) for the week for an
additional $5 charge for the day. Please call or check our online
store as we have many options. It is important that the clubs
are fit to your child, an improper fit will make for a frustrating
experience. Where can I purchase junior golf equipment? You can purchase golf equipment through
Copper Hill Golf Acaedemy at any of our locations or online at www.copperhillgolf.com/catalog in our opinion the time invested in choosing the right golf clubs
is easily as important as the time invested in learning to play. What should my child bring with him/her to the program? We recommend a water bottle, a hat,
sunscreen, and a positive attitude. Balls, tees, equipment are
not included unless requested. We will provide a snack for after
the round. Balls and tees for use on the golf course are
available at the Academy or in our online store. Players may arrive early to warm up or hit balls. Check-in will begin at 12:00 noon in the summer. We will conduct a short clinic each week at 12:30, tee times will generally begin just after 1:00. Parents should expect that their junior will be done playing approximately 2 1/2 hours after their tee time. My child has significant playing experience. Is this program appropriate? Our mission with the junior golf league is to provide semi-competitive playing experiences for those that have minimal to moderate playing experience. It is also a very good opportunity for more advanced players who currently play competitively to practice their 'competition' skills on the course. Can beginners be in the league? This is not a league for those who have never played golf. Players must have some golf experience, and preferably some instructional background. Can I request that my child plays with a certain group of friends? Because of the nature of some of the team events, and in the spirit of a 'golf league', we cannot guarantee requests like this. We will however, attempt to pair groups close to each other for car-pooling purposes. Junior Golf Camp Refund Policy We reserve the right to cancel any
session within 5 (5) days of the first day of that session. In
such an event, you will be provided the option of rescheduling
on a priority basis or receiving a full refund. Rescheduling is
permitted without fee. Name changes are permitted at any time,
without fee. If you sign up for a week and are unable to make
it, please notify us by the Monday 7:00 pm deadline. Complete
no-shows will be issued a rain check for a future week, no refunds
will be given. We hope as many as possible! We will hold the league with a minimum of 8 players, and there is no upper limit. How are the groups split up in terms of age and playing ability? In individual events, groups will be paired by age and playing ability. For team events, players will be flighted. Who is in charge of the program? Paul Banks, PGA Professional and owner of Copper Hill, and staff, will be in charge of the program. No, but it is very helpful to know at least 48 hours in advance if you plan on playing. You can play as often or as little as you would like, keeping in mind that individual points are accumlated, so those that play more often are more likely to accumlate more points. Is there a date/time deadline to sign up each week? We request that you notify us by Monday 7:00 pm before the Wednesday league date. Walkups are welcome on a space available basis. What happens if there is a tie? Point totals will be split, except in the final week (championship) where there will be a playoff. Drop off will either be at the Copper Hill Golf Academy at 37 Griffin Road or Copper Hill Golf Club at 20 Copper Hill Road, depending on the topic of the clinic. Players will be picked at The Fox Run at Copper Hill golf course across the street at approximately 5:15-5:30 for the after school league, 3:30 - 4:00 in the summer. We conduct a short clinic at approximately 12:40 each week. This is a recommended, but optional, clinic and is included in the price of the league. In addition, staff is on the golf course with the players, coaching them through playing situations, rules questions, and monitoring etiquette. The camp will take place in light or medium rain, hot, cold, and wind, but will not take place if there is a threat of thunder or lightning in the area or heavy rain. If one of the days of the league is cancelled, there will be no makeup, and the money will be refunded. Can I drop my child off early to warm up on the range before the league? There are range balls available for purchase before the league. Can my child stay after the program and practice or play? Yes, but they do so at their own risk and expense, and they will be unsupervised. |

Boys and Girls High School Golf Teams:
Area schools have long been using Copper Hill Golf Academy as a training facility, while individual players have been taking advantage of the advanced training available. Being a part of the boys or girls high school golf team creates a sense of teamwork, teaches leadership and sportsmanship. High School golf in Connecticut begins in early April and ends in late May. Members of local teams annually compete in regional junior events.
Golf Tournaments:
The tours Copper Hill Golf Academy students participate in are: The US Challenge Cup, The CT PGA Junior Golf TOUR, The Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT). These tours offer mid and high level competition on a regular basis.
Program Highlights:
The Copper Hill Golf Academy approach is a high performance golf program that gives students the opportunity to develop their total game including: technique, golf course management, competition, physical fitness, and mental conditioning.
Weekly Theme - Students focus each week on a specific theme which can include swing development using video analysis and swing drills. Students will be given drills that will make their swings more fundamentally sound and improve their ball striking and development of all phases of the short game as it relates to the theme of the week.
Training - Students learn how to practice to improve their entire game, work on their weaknesses and develop a plan they can take to the course. Coaches play with the student on a regular basis and as time allows to work on course strategy. Students work with the same coach every day, allowing the coach to be able to track student progress and focus on improving all aspects of the game with consistency.
Player accountability - Students have a great opportunity to take their game to the next level but it will be up to them to reach their potential. Starting with their performance profile students must be constantly setting goals for themselves and focusing on achieving those goals. Additional tools such as tournament evaluations and mental skills training will help players become tougher competitors.
Player Analysis - Players at Copper Hill Golf Academy should try to compete on a consistent basis with their peers. Playing golf among players of a similar age and ability level on a regular basis pushes them towards constant and consistent improvement. Our goal is for players to gain as much experience competing as possible so they have the ability to perform at the highest level, leaving behind obstacles that have held them back in the past. It is an important part of our conditioning program that players are able to evaluate their performance. Skills testing will be completed on a regular basis and will allow players to concretely identify strengths and weaknesses and set measurable goals towards improvement.
